Advent Hymn 🎼 Angels From The Realms Of Glory🎶

This advent hymn is a lengthy poem written by Scottish poet James Montgomery in 1816, containing eight verses. It has been sung to a variety of tunes, known best by the Regent Square tune by publisher James Hamilton, the minister of Regent Square Church in London.

Each verse admonishes certain beings to worship the newborn King, including angels, shepherds, sages, saints, sinners, and crescendos by addressing all creation to join in.

Verse 1

Angels, from the realms of glory,
 Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
 Ye who sang creation’s story,
 Now proclaim Messiah’s birth: Chorus

Chorus:
 Come and worship,
 Come and worship
 Worship Christ, the newborn King.

 Verse 2
 Shepherds, in the fields abiding,
Watching o’er your flocks by night,
God with man is now residing,
Yonder shines the infant light: Chorus

Verse 7
Lord of Heaven, we adore Thee,
God the Father, God the Son,
God the Spirit, One in glory,
On the same eternal throne. Chorus

Verse 8
 All creation, join in praising
   God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
 Evermore your voices raising
To the eternal Three in One. Chorus

What is worship, and why do we need it?
Worship involves contemplating something or someone greater than ourselves.
We were created for a connection to our Loving Heavenly Father, and when we glimpse how great He is, we are moved with awe as we meditate upon Him. He is infinite, and we are speechless before His Throne when we acknowledge how righteous, good, faithful, and holy God is and how sinful and destitute we are. When we realize that God gave everything so we could be in a restored relationship with Him, our only acceptable expression should be worshipping Him with abandon.

Worthy Of Worship ems 12/14/21

The first time the word worship appears in the Bible is when Abraham tells his servants to wait while he and Isaac go to the mountain in the land of Moriah to worship (Genesis 22:5). Abraham was tested there by God to offer his Son Isaac, yet God provided a ram as the substitute offering as he acted in obedience.

In the New Testament, worship first appears in Matthew 2:2 when the wise men told Herod they had come to worship “He who was born King of the Jews.” After Herod gathered the chief priests and scribes to inquire where Christ was to be born, he directed the wise men to Bethlehem.

Worship is declaring the greatness of someone or something.

It’s an act of devotion displayed by reverent honour for one who is worthy. It may involve a sacrificial offering, the bowing of the knee, or even the lifting of hands as we express awe to God for His holiness.

To recognize that God is worthy of worship, we must acknowledge who He is and what He has done. We are reminded that He alone is God, and there is no other by listing His names. God is worthy because He is Father, Creator, Saviour, Sustainer, Master, and Lord of all. He is a wonderful counselor, comforter friend, and source of all life.

God’s many attributes, such as love, faithfulness, holiness, and righteousness, cannot be compared with any other. His very nature ignites in reverence like nothing else.

Ultimately, worship of God connects the heart and spirit with the solid truth of His redemptive work for our salvation. Jesus the Son sent by the Heavenly Father willingly came and displayed God’s glory so we might respond in devoted worship. By His death on the cross and resurrection three days later, Jesus freed us to worship God forever.

So what does worship produce in us? An awareness that God is more significant than us. It gives us a desire to please God and live a life worthy of Him. Third, worship lifts our eyes from the temporal and enables us to consider the eternal.

Everything on this earth will one day pass away, but worship will continue forever. So daily, we have the choice to increase our understanding and ability to worship God, for He is worthy of worship for all eternity.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, teach me to worship you in spirit and in truth. May the praises I offer exalt Your name in my heart. May my worship life inspire others to look to You, The Living God, for You alone are worthy of worship!
