THE MEASURE OF A MAN

The measure of a man isn’t discovered with the eyes –
                 But is experienced with the heart.
          It is not tallied in dollars and cents,
                 In houses or cars or even boys’ toys.
          It is who he is when no one is looking.
                 It is a kind word and an understanding glance.
          It is a shared secret between husband and wife
         Known only to them in their own personal language codes.

          The measure of a man is the attitude of gratitude woven throughout his life
                 And exemplified in every interaction he has day to day.
          It is patience with a spent wife
                 And the mutiny of a dirty house and hungry children.

          The measure of a man is also honesty;
                 To admit he falls short needs forgiveness and an occasional jumpstart!
          But most of all, the measure of a man is peace and trust;
                 In knowing that beyond the daily grind –
          There is a refuge that God has provided in the arms of a trusted soul mate
                 At the close of the day, on our knees and arm in arm.
