This song by Laura Story, “Blessings,” brought flowing tears to my eyes this morning as I considered its lyrics.
It’s been a long, rough week of a reoccurring illness that comes often unannounced, tackling me to the ground.
It’s frustrating to see the signs of it rearing its ugly head once again, for I know what will come next.
I move from activity to inability to sleepless nights and uncomfortable, painful days.
Yet, try as I might, with the aid of doctors and tests, it remains unnamed, a mystery.
My thorn in the flesh.
And so I rest … and suffer through with no relief for 5 to 7 days and the ongoing fatigue.
So why the tears this morning?
I was reminded to not doubt God’s Sovereignty and His Compassionate Goodness.
I was reminded that this body will suffer, MUST suffer, and yes, must die.
Yet, at times, I hang onto it so tightly that I forget this life is not all there is. I forget that I’m truly a citizen of Heaven.
God had an eternal plan before the foundation of the universe,
One in which Every. Detail. WILL come true.
This momentary affliction I face 🥺has its purpose and timing, and I can trust God no matter the length or frequency of it.
There are BLESSINGS in trials.
Renewed faith, sharpened insights,
the building of Christ-like character,
and the eternal agenda of a loving Heavenly Father Who will hold me
through every trial, He has sovereignly chosen to trace upon my dial.
”I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.” ~ Psalm 139:14
I love you, Abba.
Once again, Thank You for entrusting this familiar health trial to me.
I bless Your Name and look to You for my RESToration.
Your Will Be Done.
