Taste And See That The Lord Is Good

Psalm 50
Give Gratitude that you can call on Him in the days of trouble.
Life is a journey with a final destination, and through our days on earth, we experience many journeys in life—some destinations we plan.
Others take us away in a whirlwind of unexpected outcomes.
Psalm 50 speaks of thankfulness as a sacrifice we make to God.
This sacrifice is an ongoing practice so that when troubles come,
we can confidently cry out, asking for God’s help to rescue us.
14 Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God,
and keep the vows you made to the Most High.
15 Then call on me when you are in trouble,
and I will rescue you,
and you will give me glory.” ~ Psalm 50:14-15
These verses from the Bible are a picture of a relationship with and dependence upon God. These words are precious to me, for when I first discovered them, I was going through a difficult trial during Thanksgiving week. This American holiday is a treasured time to gather with family and friends to reflect on God’s goodness to us in the preceding year.
And I had to miss it due to poor health. I was so disappointed, yet as I meditated upon these verses, the words seemed to leap across the page,
God was saying,
“It’s Thanksgiving, and I know you are sad.
I see you and want you to know I AM with you!”
My heart stopped as I blinked and reread the words,
“Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving…Call upon Me in the day of trouble.”
Here I was in the hospital, alone and disappointed, or so I thought.
God was reminding me to pray and to nestle close to Him.
It was a Heavenly Hug, just what I needed to comfort me.
And, yes! I prayed and glorified God, praising Him for His Word, the Bible, freely available to me.
Ever since that November, my first year in college, I have called upon God in good times and bad, in times of difficulty and success, in anticipated joys and unexpected challenges. And I have discovered He faithfully listens and answers my every prayer, even if it’s just a passing thought. God loves you, dear friend; call upon Him, talk to Him, and He will answer!

***NOTE: This month is my spiritual birthday in Jesus.
I surrendered to the Lord 46 years ago!
Praise God for His Holy Spirit, who has enabled me
to walk consistently with Him ever since!
