Psalm 69
History is the details of times past. There is world history, the history of a nation, and our own story. From the moment we are born, history begins to record our experiences. Daily encounters weave a tale of interactions, treasured memories, and difficulties we have surmounted.
God has a history, too. He, unlike us, is eternal, so history for Him is the record of the divine impacts God has had on each person on the planet.
Some of the best engagements that God has had are recorded for us in the pages of the Bible. His faithfulness can be seen in the lives of Adam (the first man), Noah (the man favored by God to build a saving ark), Abraham (the friend of God), Joseph (a humble leader whom God used to save the nation of Israel and many in the known world from 7 years of famine) and Moses (the shepherd whom God used to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt).
History is HIS~STORY; we who are created in God’s image have the potential for daily connections with God. Who wouldn’t want the help of the Creator of the universe with daily decisions and challenges?
Reviewing my life’s history, I see more years of walking with God than without Him. Throughout this walk of faith, I have been enriched by God’s word and encouraged to walk in a way that pleases Him.
The result is I am a more joyful person, and I have gained insights into the needs of others as I have interceded for them by name through prayer.
A valuable tool for building joy in your life is to thank God daily for three or more things you are grateful for.
Here are three I am grateful for each day:
- Another day to experience life with God, especially as I read the Bible in freedom.
- Family members who are precious and irreplaceable.
- The blessings of food, shelter, clothing, and a community to share these with.
Now it’s your turn. Write a list.
To increase your joy, share this list with at least one other person each day.
May God increase your faith as you lift your voice in praise and remind yourself of how He has been faithful to you!
