30 Days of Gratitude ~ Day 19: Faithful

Taste And See That The Lord Is Good

Glorify God for one specific way He has been faithful.

Psalm 92:1-2

Give thanks. Sing Praises. Declare God’s steadfast love.

Three life-changing commands can change the course of our day when we practice them at the start and end of our waking hours.

Cultivating a heart of gratitude is a discipline that trains the mind and yields eternal benefits for the soul. When we stop and count our blessings, we realize how great God is and how He has lovingly impacted our lives.

One specific way God has been faithful is that He has revealed Himself increasingly to me as I read the Bible. I am more in love with God now than when I first understood He exists. From a tender age, my grandmother, Pauline, instilled in me a God-awareness as she nurtured my faith by answering my many questions. She also modeled a daily practice of reading the Bible. She made God real to me, and I hungered for more.

I am forever grateful to God for sending individuals my way to guide me toward the narrow and fulfilling life of following Christ. Friends, pastors, and leaders all pointed me back to God and encouraged me to examine for myself His very words inscribed in the pages of the Bible.

In the skepticism of my teen years, I sought out unsatisfying things that left me empty, alone, and frightened. Then, when I was sixteen, I started to read the ancient writings for myself and discovered a loving, caring, all-powerful God who loved me and knew my name!

God is faithful. His very nature is one of never-ending, loyal love; this is what the Hebrew word for Hesed means.

Like these words in the letter to the Philippians, God who called me has been faithful even before I surrendered to Him; He was at work drawing me to Himself. Somewhere, people were praying for me until I experienced the reality of God’s kindness and forgiveness, just like the apostle Paul’s prayer for the Philippians:

‘3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” ~ Philippians 1:3-6

Have you experienced God’s fierce love and continual faithfulness for yourself? Begin by reading the Bible. Start in the Psalms to learn about His wonderful nature. Search our Christian friends who love and follow Jesus. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. You will find Him a loving and faithful God who pours out His love upon your whole life in beautiful ways.

Reading the Bible is the best way to learn more about God.
Consider watching the multi-season drama The Chosen, which is based on the Bible, to understand better what Jesus was like and how He interacted with His disciples.
