30 Days of Gratitude ~ Day 22: Sustained

Taste And See That The Lord Is Good
Friday, November 22nd, 2024

Thank God for the bread He gives that sustains our hearts.

Psalm 104:15

“13 You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home,
and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor.
14 You cause grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for people to use.
You allow them to produce food from the earth—
15     wine to make them glad,
olive oil to soothe their skin,
and bread to give them strength.” ~ Psalm 104:13-15

When He walked this earth, Jesus often prayed to His Heavenly Father. His continual habit piqued the interest of His disciples, who asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. Jesus taught them the Lord’s Prayer, which outlines how to pray, as recorded in Matthew 6:9-13. One request is listed in this prayer: “Give us this day our daily bread.”

We need certain things every day, including food. Yet this verse speaks more than just physical food; it informs us that we need daily sustaining strength that includes the mind, soul, and body.

Bethlehem is Jesus’ birthplace, and this name means house of bread.

Jesus told us He is the bread of life. He gives us spiritual nurturing that increases our faith and dependence upon Him. When we pray, we can ask God for our daily needs and acknowledge that He is our provider and friend.

My daily bread includes setting aside time to read the Bible and listen to God’s voice, which gives me direction for that day. As I meet with God face-to-face around His Word, I am fed truths that guide me in daily decisions, provide wisdom, and enable me to have loving connections with others. I am so thankful that I can call upon God at any time and am nourished through His daily bread from His heart to mine.

Have you ever read through the entire Bible?

By reading 3-5 chapters per day, you can read it cover to cover in one year. I have found the You Version Bible App very helpful in keeping me on track and making Bible reading a daily habit. It also helps to have a friend read along with you and with whom you can share what you are learning. God reveals who He is through the pages of the Bible.
