Acknowledge God for His Forever Love
Psalm 136

“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good,
for His steadfast love endures forever.” ~ Psalm 136:1
Steadfast means something you can count on. God’s love is repeatedly described this way throughout Psalm 136. Each verse in the twenty-six verses repeats the phrase, “for His steadfast love endures forever. In the public reading of this psalm, a leader would state the beginning part of the verse, and the congregational response would be these words.
Do you need to be reassured of God’s unconditional, faithful love for you?
Read Psalm 136 out loud and emphasize the words
“for His steadfast love endures forever” loudly each time you read the line.
God’s loving-kindness is called “Hesed” ( חֶסֶד cheçed) in Hebrew. It is a rich and multifaceted term encompassing love, kindness, mercy, and loyalty. It often describes God’s covenantal love and faithfulness towards His people. (Seehttps://biblehub.com/hebrew/2617.htm )
Another way of expressing this is God’s love never fails.
So when I mess up and am feeling unworthy, God’s love never fails.
When I feel rejected and lonely, God’s love never fails.
When enemies attack me, God’s love never fails.
When I have unanswered questions and feel overwhelmed, God’s love never fails.
God’s love is a reliable, profound, and loyal connection with many emotional facets. He loves you so deeply that He cannot love you more because He has given His all. He cannot love you less because His very nature is love. God has loved before the dawn of time; before heaven and earth were created, He knew you. (Psalm 139)
If God had not revealed His love to us, we would never know what true love is! His love is so mighty and powerful that He wants you to know Him personally. God is holy, and we fall short of His standard, so He made a way.
God made this possible by sending the exact representation of Himself so we could understand this love: He sent Jesus to live among us.
1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3 The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. 4 This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.
~ Hebrews 1:1-4
Jesus came humbly as a baby and lived thirty-three years on this earth.
His greatest accomplishment was loving us so much that He took the punishment for our sins. God is holy, and His standard of goodness is something we can never attain, but Jesus stood in our place. We know that God accepted Jesus’ sacrifice, dying on the cross for our sins, because He rose from the dead after three days. There is only one way to God, the Messiah Jesus.
So, who is this Jesus to you?
Acknowledge and thank God for His steadfast love; know you are forever loved!
