Let Thanksgiving OVERFLOW!

2 Corinthians 4:15

Today, we gather around tables in the United States to celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s a memorable time of feasting, enjoying family and friends, and counting our blessings from God with grateful hearts. We look forward to this celebration all year and to enjoying special foods, most of which are homemade preparations.

Thanksgiving is a part of our nation’s history and focuses on being grateful to God for all He has provided. Some of this country’s first settlers, the Pilgrims, arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on a ship named the Mayflower from England. They had a tough first year and faced many hardships, including the death of some of their community. With the aid of the Native Americans, they adapted to their new environment and flourished.

Thanksgiving has been celebrated intermittently over the years as a nation. Still, it became an official holiday through the proclamation of our sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, who served faithfully from 1861 until his assassination in 1865.

So, this is a day to let Thanksgiving overflow, like a fountain springing up from the depths of our souls. When we are grateful, we become content with what we have and won’t be so tempted to focus on what we don’t have. Remember that everything we have is a gift from God. From His gracious heart, He provides everything we need, from sunshine and rain to the beating of our hearts and our next breath.

Your Heavenly Father, Who created you, is a wonder-filled God worth knowing, and He blesses you daily with great things. Praise God from Whom ALL blessings flow!

So, on this day of Thanksgiving, I pray that you may not just have a belly full of delicious foods but also a heart that is genuinely great~FULL!
