CeLeBrAtE that salvation comes from the Lord!

Jonah 2:9

“Now Adonai prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” ~ Jonah 1:17

The Living God is supreme in power, completely holy, and without sin. He is perfect in all of His ways; therefore, we, who were created by Him and for Him, are subject to the Lord God as Judge and Ruler of all. Many names for God are listed in the Bible, and Adonai is a majestic one that reflects the Almighty’s Sovereignty. There is nothing outside of His power and care. Here’s what Adonai looks like in Hebrew.

God created diversity and loves the many nations on this earth. His heart is that no one would perish and be without Him, so He made a way through His truth that gives Eternal life. As a just and holy God, He requires holiness in us, but we fall short.

The Romans were the ruling power in Israel and beyond during Jesus Christ’s time. They built many fortified cities and enduring roads throughout the empire. Here is one Roman road you should know about and travel for yourself because it leads to salvation through faith:

Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory.” <–That’s the BAD News.

Romans 4:7-8 says, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.“<–That’s the DESIRED HOPE.

Romans 6:23 reveals an eternal consequence for our sin; “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” <– That’s the GOOD News!

This message of good news is called the gospel, and every person on earth has the right to hear it. Namely, that though we were enemies of Almighty God, God reconciled the world to Himself through the death of His Son Jesus on the Cross; Jesus took our punishment of death, which satisfied the wrath of God. We know that Jesus’ sacrifice was enough because, on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead and lives today!

Today’s verse comes from the book of Jonah, a prophet God sent to the Assyrians, a people hated by the Israelites. God tapped Jonah on the shoulder to journey to Ninevah to share the bad news with these Assyrians and their need to repent before a holy God. Yet, Jonah was unwilling. God used a great fish to convince and convict Jonah to complete his assignment. Jonah had run the opposite direction of Ninevah on a ship, was tossed into the sea during a great storm of God’s judgment, and then was swallowed up by a great fish in the middle of the ocean. God appointed this fish to enable Jonah to realize that God was determined to deliver this message, and Jonah was chosen to deliver it. After 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of that fish, Jonah’s prayer of distress rose up, and God delivered him out of the mouth of the fish to the shore. Jonah received a second chance to complete his mission.

The primary theme in Jonah is that God’s compassion is boundless, not limited just to “us” (Jonah and the Israelites) but also available for “them” (the pagan sailors and the Ninevites). https://www.bibles.net/book-background/background-of-jonah/ .
We know this story of Jonah is genuine and not just an illustration because Jonah’s existence is recorded in three other books of the Bible (2 Kings 14:25; Matthew 12:38-41; 16:4,17; Luke 11:29-30).

And Jonah’s experience was a sign of something greater to come:
“For just as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.” ~ Matthew 12:40

“For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation.” ~ Luke 11:30

Jonah was saved from death in the belly of a fish, and we can be saved from eternal death and receive eternal life through Jesus Christ. If you have placed your trust in Jesus as your Saviour, then with thanksgiving, you can declare with Jonah that salvation belongs to the Lord. Forgiveness is available.

Salvation is God’s FREE Gift! Don’t leave Earth without it!

17 For Adonai, your God is God of gods and Lord of lords—the great, mighty, and awesome God, who does not show partiality or take a bribe. 18 He enacts justice for the orphan and widow and loves the outsider, giving him food and clothing. 19 Therefore love the outsider, for you were outsiders in the land of Egypt. 20 Adonai, your God you will fear—Him will you serve. To Him will you cling, and by His Name will you swear. 21 He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things that your eyes have seen.” ~Deuteronomy 10: 17-21
