Refreshment from Above by ems

It is raining today, and I gladly welcome this saturation for my thirsty gardens.

God uses rain to bless us, fill us, nourish us, and bring potential growth. In the land that seems to have nothing, a desert, with the Lord’s gift of dew from Heaven, the ground springs to life with the seeds hidden within.

In Israel, an arid land with many deserts, people depend upon the rain for life. Of the Hebrew words used for rain, four main ones describe the type of rain:

yoreh (early rains – Fall start of the rainy season after a hot, dry summer),

matar (generic word for rain, both a noun and verb),

geshem (to fulfill or realize, making something come into being that was not), and

melkosh (latter rains – Spring rain necessary for the ripening of grains).

Hosea 6:1-3 expresses our continual need for God throughout the year:

“Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us;
 He has struck us down, and he will bind us up.
 After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.
 Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers [geshem], as the spring rains [malkosh] that water the earth.”

After ongoing trials that bring the drought of difficulty, we need the essential refreshment from above found only in God’s presence as we meditate upon the truths of His word. His very nature offers us refuge and healing and gives us the strength and resolve to rise up and walk again.

The latter rains in Israel can be hard downpours that yield the harvest… vital to the fields ready to be gathered in.

In this life, we will have rain, a critical element for our well-being, yet how much better it would be to welcome it. As we embrace these blessing drops from Heaven, we can know that our Heavenly Father has tucked away within those storms the blessing of pressing in close to Him, to shelter under His wings, and to know Him as never before. And out of that place of desperation and saturation, we can discover hidden treasure in the character of God and then reflect this goodness in our own personality.

I have a color-changing umbrella, which is only activated by water. I think I’ll use that one today to enjoy the transformation.

May you be soaked and refreshed today by God.
